Kamov Ka 26 'Hoodloom'

These pictures were taken and kindly contributed by Slyizs Peter from Hungary. If there ever were pictures that look inviting enough to just take the aircraft and fly away, these are the ones. I would not mind having a Hoodloom in my backyard.

The following text is from Venik's great site on Russian aviation:

"First announced in early 1964, the general-purpose Kamov Ka-26 helicopter (NATO reporting name 'Hoodlum') is of typical Kamov helicopter design and incorporates a conventional tail unit with twin endplate fins and rudders, with tailplane and elevators between. The aircraft is carried on four-wheel fixed landing gear, and power is provided by two 242-kW (325-hp) Vedeneyev M-14V-26 radial piston engines. These are each housed in a pod, one mounted at each tip of short-span stub wings on top of the fuselage.

The cabin is fully enclosed and as standard is equipped for one-man operation; the remainder of the cabin can be used for a variety of purposes, including agricultural spraying and dusting, air ambulance, cargo- or passenger-carrying, geophysical survey, and search and rescue. More than 850 'Hoodlum-As' have been built to date, and these have served with civil operators in some 15 countries, as well as with the air forces of Hungary, Bulgaria and Sri Lanka. A modified Ka-26 featuring the jet control system destined for the projected Ka-118 (similar to the MDC NOTAR system) is currently under test. The 'Hoodlum-113', (designated the Ka-126) is a utility version powered by twin Vedeneyev M14 turboshaft engines, and is used as a flying crane to which can be added a cabin seating seven passengers. The type is also usable as an ambulance, or with detachable agricultural equipment for roles such as crop-spraying, forestry patrol, powerline or oil pipe inspection, cargo hauling, etc. First flown in 1988, Ka-126 development and production is the responsibility of the Romanian AR company. "

One more walkaround of the Ka 26 can be found here. Some more good links are here: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. And with Google you get this.
